Illegal Immigrant Arrested At Social Security Office

A Salvadoran man residing in Belize City is in big trouble on two fronts.                                                   First he is accused of trying to obtain a Social Security card using a false nationality certificate.   And then on top of that, his legal status in Belize expired on September 30, which means he is in the country illegally.                                                                                                                                                        According to police, Rafael Alexander Vasquez Sanchez, who is 24 years old, went to the Belize Social Security Board office in Belize City on Friday and presented documents to the clerk as he tried to get a Social Security Card.

But the alert clerk noticed that the same man had previously applied for a temporary social security card and that the surnames on the latest application differed from the previous one.

Previously, according to police, the man applied under the name Rafael Alexander Vasquez Sanchez.But on Friday, he was applying under the name Rafael Alexander Vasquez Medina.

That was enough of a red flag for the Social Security Board employee and the police was called in.

Vasquez Sanchez was taken into custody by the police and escorted to the Queen Street station where they started an investigation.

Police say that “the initial investigations revealed that it that the documents used in order to obtain the nationality certificate were not genuine, that is, the birth certificate that claims that Rafael Alexander Vasquez Sanchez was the child of a Belizean mother.”

Rafael Alexander Vasquez Sanchez has since been arrested and charged for the possession of false documents and uttering upon a false document.

In addition to the criminal matter, Vasquez Sanchez also faces immigration offences, since his legal status in Belize expired at the end of September.
