Infant dies … police investigate
An 11 month old baby has died; and the postmortem examination had certified that it may not have been the result of sudden infant death syndrome.
The baby has been identified as Mia Eusebia Lopez.
The infant died on Wednesday morning, April 1, 2015 at her home on Curl Thompson Street in Belize City.
The baby’s mother, 21 year old Karen de Jesus Perez, told police that around 7:30 am on Wednesday, she was attending to baby Eusebia, when she started to cry and was gasping for air.
Shortly after, the baby became motionless.
When she was taken tot he Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for medical attention, baby Eusebia was pronounced dead.
Police today reported that the postmortem examination conducted on baby Eusebia on Thursday concluded that the cause of the infant’s death was “tonsillar herniation due to severe cerebral edema due to multiple skull fractures due to blunt force trauma to the head.”
Police say they are investigating the child’s death.
