Jalacte village man drowns in the Rio Grande
Tragedy in Big Falls: Reports from Toledo say the body of a man was retrieved from the Rio Grande river at Big Falls tonight, Sunday, July 14.
It has been identified as that of Lorenzo Pop, believed to be near 30 years old. It is suspected that Pop drowned while swimming.
A source from the Toledo district told West Vision that Pop who is Jalacte village was visiting with his brother- in-law in Big Falls village where they were having a party.
Reports are that Pop was seen heading towards the river around 1:30 pm Sunday. His body was recovered around 8:30 pm.
The delay in retrieving the body was because of the flooded state of the Rio Grande river.
Pop’s body has been transported to the morgue at the Punta Gorda hospital via a police pickup truck.
