Benque Viejo del Carmen, BELIZE. Friday, December 30, 2016. The Prensa Libre newspaper is reporting that the director of the musical group Los Phoenix del Peten Manuel Tager, 70, perished in a road traffic accident early this morning.

According to reports, the vehicle carrying the band crashed around 3 am in a village known as Sabanetas, as the group was returning from participation in an event in Poptun, Guatemala.

Although Los Phoenix is a Guatemalan band, it is known to play a lot of Belizean music and the group often performs in Belize, primarily at events in Benque Viejo del Carmen.

In fact, reports are that the Los Phoenix was booked to perform at a New Year’s Event at the Cancha Marshalleck in Benque Viejo del Carmen this weekend.

The Prensa Libre newspaper report says that other members of the Los Phoenix band who were traveling in the SUV sustained varying degrees of injuries.
