Man accused of sexually assaulting his granddaughter

San Pedro town, Ambergris Caye. Tuesday, May 26, 2015. Police in San Pedro town on Ambergris Caye have arrested and charged a man for the sexual assault of his granddaughter.

Due to the nature of the crime and to protect the identity of the little girl, the name of the grandfather cannot be revealed.

Police say that on Saturday afternoon, a woman and her eight year old daughter went to the police station in San Pedro town to report that the man had sexually assaulted the 8 year old girl.

The minor told police that she was lying in a hammock at her grandmother’s house when the man sexually assaulted her.

The child told police that this was not the first time that her grandfather had sexually assaulted her.

Police say the minor reported that her grandfather had sexually assaulter her on several occasions since June, 2014.

The grandfather has been arrested and charged for two counts of sexual assault.
