Belize City, Belize. Tuesday, June 30, 2015. One of two men who police officers say shot at them during a high-speed chase early on Sunday morning has been charged for aggravated assault with a firearm.

22 year old Philip Bowen of Freedom Street pleaded not guilty to the charges today before Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer.

The two police constables were on motorcycle patrol on Central American Boulevard near Antelope Street when they saw a taxi travelling at a high rate of speed, evading their trap as it turned onto Antelope Street.

The officers continued their pursuit until they saw the vehicle run into a drain on the extension.

That was when a man sitting in the vehicle on the passenger side fired a shot at them but missed.

The two men then got out and fled the scene.

The officers searched the car and found a 9mm bullet and an LG cell phone identified as Bowen’s property.

He returns to court on August 14.
