Vehicles for Maternal Health Care initiative

Belmopan, CAYO. Friday, March 11, 2016. Yolanda Habet-Jones Reporting.  Three new vehicles, valued at $120,000, were donated to the Ministry of Health for use by the Maternal and Child Health program.

The vehicles were procured through the Salud Mesoamerica 2015 Initiative and will be used to aid with outreach activities for preventive interventions at the community level geared at improving maternal health and reducing child mortality.

According to an official press release from the Ministry of Health, the vehicles have been assigned for use in the Western and Northern Health regions of the country where the current project focusing on maternal and child health services, is currently being implemented.

It is in its second operational phase which started last July and ends in June, 2017.

It is providing family planning, post-natal care, child growth and development and the management of diarrhea in children in the target areas of the country of Belize at a cost of a little over a half a million dollars.

The Salud Mesoamerica 2015 Initiative seeks to reduce health inequity gaps in the Mesoamerican region faced primarily by those living in extreme poverty.

The Ministry of Health has pledged to continue working with both national and international partners in its’ ongoing efforts to improve the overall healthcare system for all.
