NEAB supports call for good governance
Punta Gorda, TOLEDO. Friday, March 6, 2020. The National Evangelical Association of Belize (NEAB) has issued a statement of support for the National Trade Union Congress of Belize (NTUCB) calling for good governance in Belize.
NTUCB made the call for good governance in a public statement to the media at the start of the month (March 3, 2020).
According to a statement signed by new NEAB president Pastor Victor Hernandez “we have reached a point of moral crisis in our nation concerning proper governance, accountability and the rule of law as laid out by the Constitution of Belize.”
NEAB says it is urging “in the strongest way” for government to heed the voice of reason “in the call for proper, functional mechanisms of accountability” and concludes that these points are what the Barrow administration had promised the people of Belize prior to being elected to office “but never followed through on” them.
“This issue is reaching crisis point,” concludes NEAB.
The umbrella Association representing affiliated churches countrywide also expresses condolences to the families of the four Belize Defence Force Soldiers who died in a helicopter crash earlier this month.
“We are united in the call for an independent investigation into the crash and terrible deaths of our valiant soldiers,” says the NEAB statement.
