Nelson Mandela to be buried on Sunday, December 15
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Africa says that 91 current heads of state or government will be in attendance at the funeral for the Nelson Mandela, 95.
Mr. Mandela who was imprisoned for nearly three decades emerged from jail to lead South Africa out of apartheid and served as the first democratically elected President from 1994 to 1999.
Among the world leaders who will be in attendance at the funeral are what the South African Government calls “75 eminent persons.”
Leading celebrities in the anti-apartheid movement Peter Gabriel and Bono are also expected to attend.
Mr. Mandela’s body will lie in state in Pretoria on the following three days and he will be given a state funeral on Sunday.
A smaller number of international dignitaries including the Prince of Wales will attend the burial in the Eastern Cape village of Qunu, where the late president grew up.
