Orange Walk Town Council says stadium fee is too high
Friday, May 13, 2016. Orange Walk Town, Orange Walk. The Orange Walk town council is crying foul after it received word that it may have to cough up $3,000 to be able to use the People’s Stadium for the popular Fiestarama.
Mayor Kevin Bernard posted a press release on his Facebook page last night expressing disappointment over the imposition of the hefty fee.
Mayor Bernard explains that Fiestarama is an event that ultimately benefits the people of Orange Walk and can’t understand why the price is being raised so high.
The Mayor is appealing to the Minister responsible for Sports Elodio Aragon and the Minister of Education Patrick Faber to reconsider the fee that is being charged for use of the People’s Stadium.
He is inviting the Sports Council to work hand in hand with the Town council for the betterment of Orange walk.
In the wake of the social media post, Mayor Bernard posted an update on Friday morning informing that the fee has been reduced to a manageable $1,000.
As a result of the change in the stadium fee, Mayor Bernard posted that “we will proceed with Fiestarama at the People’s Stadium on July 30th and 31st, 2016.”
