Plane full of cocaine intercepted, forced to land in Mexico
Authorities in three countries collaborated to force a small plane laden with cocaine to land in Mexico last week during an air interdiction exercise.
The regional exercise involved the air forces of Colombia, Honduras and Guatemala.
According to a report in Emisoras Unidas, the flight of the intercepted drugs plane originated in South America and authorities believe that the cargo of 240 kilos of cocaine found inside was destined for Central America.
The aircraft, a single-engine Cessna had the call letters XB-YNC emblazoned on its side.
After the detection of the plane, authorities informed their Mexican counterparts which continued the monitoring and forced the plane down.
The purpose of the joint Air Interdiction Exercise was to strengthen aviation procedures used to intercept and identify irregular air traffic between Honduras, Colombia and Guatemala.
