Police Commissioner cancels vehicle checkpoints countrywide
Thursday, October 15, 2015. Belmopan, Cayo. An internal Memo from Commissioner of Police Allen Whylie to formation Commanders made the rounds on social media today and has resulted in an ongoing robust discussion.
The Subject of the ComPol’s Memo directs all formation, sub-formation and unit commanders to stand down vehicle checkpoints countrywide with immediate effect.
No explanation for the directive was given in the Memo, but the closing sentence of the document did give the commanders the option of consulting directly with Commissioner Whylie to get his approval if a checkpoint in any area of the country becomes necessary.
It is an extraordinary directive from the country’s top cop and Commissioner Whylie was not readily available for comment on the reason why he has cancelled vehicle checkpoints countrywide.
We will keep following this story and bring up updates as necessary.
