Police look for duo who allegedly beat up a policeman
The Belize Police department today released details of the incident surrounding the death of a policeman over the weekend.
PC Roy Fernandez, 26, died on Saturday evening, almost a week after he was badly beaten up in Georgetown village, Stann Creek.
The official police report issued on Monday morning classified the incident as “sudden death” and says that PC Fernandez was accosted and beaten on the morning of Sunday, August 4.
PC Fernandez, who is attacked to Precint 1 in Belize City, was reportedly walking on an unnamed street in Georgetown village, in the company of two women, when he was accosted by Frederick and Ivan Castillo.
While the Castillo brothers hurled verbal insults at PC Fernandez as he walked the women home, it was after dropping the women home and he was walking to his own house when the Castillo brothers got physical with the off duty police officer.
The brutally beat him, leaving Fernandez with a swollen face, cut lip and complained of pain to the upper body. Police say PC Fernandez did not report the incident and refused medical attention.
Around 5 am on Saturday, PC Fernandez started complaining of severe pain and was unable to urinate. He as immediately rushed to the clinic where he died at 5:40 pm on Saturday.
The body of PC Fernandez now awaits a post mortem examination at the Southern Regional Hospital. Police are now looking for Frederick and Ivan Castillo for questioning in connection with the incident.
