Police make marijuana bust just outside of San Ignacio town
San Ignacio, CAYO. Sunday, March 6, 2016. Two large bundles of marijuana, weighing about 150 pounds, are in storage at the San Ignacio police station following a drug bust early on Saturday morning.
The drug is labeled as “found property” because authorities did not nab any of the persons who were found with the marijuana.
Information received says that around 4 am on Saturday, personnel from the Quick Response Team (QRT) surprised three men believed to be Guatemalan nationals on a feeder road off the George Price Highway just outside of San Ignacio town with the two bungles of marijuana.
They were apparently waiting for a vehicle to transport the cache from the area.
According to information, the drug traffickers managed to escape detention by the QRT team that was on routine patrol in the area at the time of the bust.
Despite shots being fired, the Guatemalan nationals managed to escape into the darkness, leaving behind the marijuana and a pump action shotgun with three live rounds of ammunition.
The QRT subsequently took the marijuana to the San Ignacio police station and deposited it as “found property.”
