Police release details of fatal traffic accident
San Ignacio town, Cayo. Tuesday, September 22, 2015. An 8 year old girl died in a road traffic accident on Monday afternoon on the George Price Highway in San Ignacio town.
Kaylene Mai received multiple injuries to her body when the SUV she, her mom and two other siblings were traveling in overturned between miles 68 and 69 on the George Price Highway.
Police say that 31 year old Evelyn Kuylen was driving towards Benque Viejo del Carmen town when around 2:30 pm on Monday when she lost control of the vehicle and overturned.
Police say that Andrea Chiroy, 2, received abrasions to her knee and cut wounds to the right side of the head.
Evelyn Kuylen, 31, received cut wound to the top of the head, swelling to the right side of the forehead and above the eye, cut wound to the index and middle fingers and left elbow.
Ken Mai, 9, sustained injuries to the forehead, and abrasions to his right ankle.
All four persons in the SUV were transported to the San Ignacio Community Hospital where Kaylene Mai died about a half hour later.
As San Ignacio police investigates this latest fatal road traffic accident at the same spot, they are advising drivers to exercise caution at this very dangerous curve.
In August, an American national died in an accident at the same stretch of the George Price Highway.
