Policeman accused of handling stolen goods
A policeman stands accused of the crime of handling stolen goods.
Police Constable Ernesto Buckley, 34, was arraigned in the San Ignacio Magistrate’s Court earlier this week on charges of handling stolen goods and resisting arrest.
The charges arose out of an incident on October 5th when a businessman reported that sixteen paintings, with a total value of $5,100 that he was selling were stolen.
The businessman told police that while in the Savannah area of San Ignacio town where he was selling the paintings, he fell asleep and when he woke up found that someone had made off with the paintings.
Four days later, police say they found the stolen paintings in a building in Santa Elena town on Wednesday afternoon.
Investigations by police revealed that PC Buckley allegedly took the bag with the paintings to the said building and so he was arrested and charged.
PC Buckley was offered, and met bail of $1,500 and ordered to return to court in mid-December.
