Prime Minister Barrow getting medical attention in the United States
Belmopan, CAYO. Wednesday, December 7, 2016. Prime Minister Dean Barrow will not return to the country today as originally planned.
An official release from the Office of the Prime Minister says that Mr. Barrow who has been “experiencing symptoms seemingly consistent with viral gastroenteritis” since last Thursday, will remain in the United States for further medical attention.
“The symptoms have persisted during his travel and he saw a doctor and was advised to run tests, some of which could not have been diagnosed in Belize,” said the statement from the Office of the Prime Minister.
Mr. Barrow is now expected to return to Belize on Sunday. Deputy Prime Minister Patrick Faber continues to hold over as Prime Minister.
The official release notes that the absence of the Prime Minister from Belize will not interrupt official government business such as the planned signing of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption and the scheduled sitting of the House of Representatives on Friday.
Both activities will go on as originally planned.
