Red Creek man shot, gunman escapes
A man from the Red Creek area of Santa Elena town was wounded in a shooting incident on Monday night. The victim has been identified as Matthew Ifield, 32, who sustained a gunshot wound to the right thigh.
Police say Ifield was riding a bicycle towards his Red Creek home when he was accosted by a gunman.
The gunman is described as being of Hispanic descent and wore a black shirt and cap. That gunman is reported to have emerged from behind a building and opened fire on Ifield.
Ifield continued riding his bicycle toward and the gunman continued firing at him. Ifield collapsed as he reached in front of his house.
He was assisted by his brother and taken to the La Loma Luz hospital for initial treatment. Ifield was later transferred to the Western Regional hospital in Belmopan for further medical attention.
Police sat they have since recovered a total of 13 expended 9 millimeter shells and 1 live round from the scene of the crime.
Police say that that after the shooting, the gunman escaped through the La Loma Luz Hospital compound.
Police investigations continue.
