San Ignacio businessman robbed of his SUV
Tuesday, October 20, 2015. San Ignacio, Cayo. A San Ignacio business man was robbed of his vehicle at gunpoint on Saturday night.
Thirty four year old Nigel Espat and friends had just exited a business establishment on Savannah Avenue in San Ignacio around 7:15 pm on Saturday when he was accosted by a man of Hispanic descent armed with a black pistol.
Police say the gunman demanded the keys to Espat’s D-Max pickup truck.
Fearing for his life, police say Espat handed over the keys to his SUV to the gunman, who also took away Espat’s IPhone.
The gunman got into the driver’s seat of the pickup truck and before driving away, two other men of Hispanic descent got into the vehicle.
The robbers drove off in the direction of Joseph Andrews Drive.
Police say they quickly made checks on the Santa Rosa and Calla Creek roads, via Bullet Tree Falls village, where they found the stolen vehicle abandoned on a feeder road off the Calla Creek road.
This is the same road that gives illicit access to Guatemalan territory.
While Belize police have recovered the stolen vehicle, the key was not in the SUV and is presumed that the robbers made off with the key.
Police investigations continue.
