Police in San Ignacio town are investigating an early Tuesday morning shooting incident in Red Creek area of Santa Elena town.
The shooting happened at the Ifield’s residence.
Police say that around 1:10 am on Tuesday, they went to the Ifield residence where a 19 year old man reported that while he was waiting for his cousin to come out of the outdoor bathroom, he observed two persons under a wooden upstairs house inside the fenced yard.
The teenager told police that when the persons saw him, the fired three gunshots towards him, causing him to run and hide in the back of the yard.
The 19 year old told authorities that he is unable to identify the persons shooting at him because the area was dark and overgrown.
A relative of the 19 year old came out of his house, located about 100 feet away and the gunmen reportedly fired a couple of shots at the cousin.
The cousin of the 19 year old reportedly responded by firing his licensed 16-gauge shotgun at the shooters who took off running.
Police say they have since recovered a slug believed to be from a 9 millimeter pistol, and two expended shells from the scene.
Two bullet holes are also observed near the door at the entrance to the Ifield residence and near a side window. Investigations continue.
