Six persons nominated for 13th Senator appointment
Belize City, BELIZE. Wednesday, January 4, 2017. A total of six persons have been nominated for the 13th Senator.
They are Pablo Collado from Adopt a child with disability; Janelle Chanona from Oceana-Belize; Edilberto Romero from BACONGO; Osmany Salas from BTIA; Donovan Reneau from BCVI and Valdemar Andrade from TASA.
According to an official press release, the Steering Committee will now proceed to vet these candidates using the criteria that was established by the group of non-governmental organizations in good standing as of November 8, 2016.
The official press release also notes that since their nomination and acceptance, Janelle Chanona and Osmany Salas have both resigned from their posts on the 13th Senator Steering Committee.
These six nominees will now be formally introduced to the NGO community on Friday and the voting process will then be finalized.
The person who will represent the NGO community as the 13th Senator will be chosen in elections scheduled for next Tuesday, January 10, 2017.
Following that election, the name of the person who emerge with the most votes will then be submitted to the Governor General by January 17 for formal appointment to the Upper House of Parliament.
