Six year old dies after being shot in the head
Belize City, Belize. Tuesday, May 5, 2015. Six year old Travis Polanco, who was shot in the head on Thursday night has died.
Police say that around ten thirty this morning, the boy’s family decided to remove him from life support after medical authorities at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital indicated that Travis was brain dead.
The child was shot in the head on Thursday night, allegedly by an eleven year old boy.
Both boys are from Valley Community, located at mile 18 on the Hummingbird Highway.
Police say that their initial investigation reveals that Travis Polanco was heading home from school when he started to throw rocks in the direction of the 11 year old boy.
The older boy, according to the police report, reportedly went inside his home, got his father’s 16-gauge shotgun and fired a single shot in the direction of the 6 year old boy who was standing about fifty feet away near a palm tree.
Six year old Travis Polanco was taken first to the Southern Regional hospital and later transferred to the KHMH in Belize City where he passed away.
Police and the Department of Human Services are investigating this tragic story.
