Suspect detained in murder of high school student
Police in Orange Walk have detained one man pending charges in connection with the murder of a high school student on Tuesday evening.
Darrel Wade, 18, a resident of Biscayne village who attended the New Hope High School in Orange Walk town was fatally stabbed as he walked on Stadium Street.
The suspect in police custody pending charges is a 25 year old man who lives on Palmar Road in Orange Walk. Police say they have also recovered a knife believed to have been the murder weapon.
According to police report, when the suspect accosted Wade, he allegedly said “It’s you I want” and then proceeded to stab Wade three times to the chest and back.
Police say that after he was mortally wounded, Wade managed to run a short distance but fell on the side of the street in front of a store.
He was assisted by some people in the area and rushed to the Northern Regional Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing surgery.
