Swearing in of new Alcaldes takes place in Punta Gorda town
Punta Gorda, TOLEDO. Friday, January 20, 2017. A new class of Alcaldes was sworn in today in Punta Gorda town.
The Father Francis Ring Parish Hall was the venue for the swearing in ceremonies where 76 Alcaldes took their Oath of Office from Supreme Court Justice Antoinette Moore.
The Alcaldes representing over three dozen Maya communities in the Toledo district were elected in elections held in the respective villages and communities.
They tern of office is for two years.
At the swearing in ceremonies, the Alcaldes gave their commitment to upholding the traditional Maya cultural practices and the Constitution of Belize.
This morning’s swearing in ceremony for the new Alcaldes also saw the election of a new 7-member executive for the Toledo Alcaldes Association, TAA.
From the group of 75 Alcaldes, Santiago Quib emerged as the new TAA president, having gotten the majority support from member of his peers.
