Taiwan donates rice to Belize
Belize City, BELIZE. Thursday, August 23, 2018. The government of the Republic of China, Taiwan has donated 10,000 bags of rice to the government of Belize.
A ceremony was held in Wednesday in Belize City where Taiwan’s ambassador to Belize Charles Liu handed over the donation to Minister of HUman Development Anthony “Boots” Martinez.
The donation comes through Taiwan’s Rice Donation for Humanitarian Relief project and comprises five containers filled with 22-pound bags of rice.
According to Ambassador Liu the donation to Belize is due to a bountiful harvest of rice in Taiwan his government’s desire to share with those in need in Belize.
Minister Martinez thanked the Taiwanese government for the generous donation, valued at $250,000 and announced that the rice will be distributed to over 800 government and non-government agencies and families across the country.
Among the recipients named in a government press release are the hospitals, NEMO, the Kolbe Foundation, Help Age, Salvation Army and various schools feeding programs.
