Taiwan donates to Aquaculture Project initiative
The government of the Republic of China, Taiwan is living up to its end of the bargain on the joint Aquaculture Project being undertaken in Central Farm, Cayo district.
On Tuesday, Taiwan’s Ambassador in Belize David Wu handed over a cheque in the amount of US$651,725 to the Minister of Agriculture Gaspar Vega.
The money is the second donation towards the Tilapia project, a 5-year joint initiative of Belize and Taiwan that will carry a BZ$5 million price tag at completion.
According to a government press release the “donation will be used for the construction of a hatchery center for tilapia farming at Central Farm. The project is to provide male tilapia fingerlings to small- scale farmers around the country. Thus far, over 60 farmers have benefited from the project and the long-term goal is to assist around 200 farmers.”
