Tuesday, October 20, 2015. Belize City, Belize. The Belize Tourism Board on Monday released overnight arrival statistics for the third quarter of the year.
According to BTB, between July and September, there was a significant increase of 6.9% in overnight arrivals when compared to the same period last year.
BTB says that in September alone, there was a 19.3% increase in arrivals, the highest ever recorded for the month of September dating back to as far as 2006.
The official release from BTB says that the Phillip Goldson International Airport is the leading point of entry.
Air arrivals account for 74.4% of the total overnight arrivals, with September seeing an increase of approximately 20% through percent through the PGIA.
Visitors from the United States account for the bulk of the arrivals recorded at the PGIA last month.
BTB says that it has noted a major increase in South American arrivals, with a 45.1% increase for the first 9 months of 2015.
This was followed by the Asian market which had a 25.1% increase.
The official release from BTB closes by saying that an anticipated continued growth in arrivals from the South American and Asian markets is expected especially with new marketing strategies that have been implemented in these areas, such as Trade Shows, Road Shows, service via Copa Airlines and other marketing partnerships.
The only bit of not so good news coming out of the BTB statistics was a slight dip in cruise arrivals for the first 9 months of 2015.
Compared to the same period in 2014, there was a 0.3% decrease in cruise arrivals.
