Tropical Storm Nate passes in front of Belize
TS Nate, with maximum sustained winds of 50 miles per hour, passed hundreds of miles in front of Belize today and forecasters now expect it to approach Cancun and Cozumel, Mexico tonight.
At midday today – Friday – Tropical Storm Nate was located at 19.4 degrees North latitude; 85.3 degrees West longitude, or about 125 miles east, southeast of Cozumel, Mexico.
It is moving towards the north, northwest at 21 miles per hour.
An advisory issued by the National Emergency Management Organization, NEMO, explains that the main threat for Belize from Tropical Storm Nate is expected to be thunderstorms and heavy rains, especially along the coast and the northern part of the country.
Localized flooding due to heavy rains is expected in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
