Orange Walk town, ORANGE WALK. Tuesday, February 2, 2016. TNC: Orange Walk police are investigating the double-murder of two teenagers on Monday evening.
17 year old Rene Acevedo and 19 year old Erlindo Matura, both residents of Gristock Street in Orange Walk, died in the shooting incident just before five o’clock on Monday evening.
According to the official police report, Acevedo was shot to the back of the head, while Matura was shot to the left side of the back and chest.
Initial police investigations revealed that Matura, Acevedo and a 16 year old were standing on Gristock Street when they were approached by a man who reportedly asked who sold marijuana in the area.
Police say that the man then rode off a short distance, took out a handgun and fired a single shot which caught Acevedo in the back of his head.
The gunman then reportedly turned the gun on Matura, hitting him the upper part of his back with an exit wound to the chest.
The 16 year old was able to escape injuries, even though the gunman fired shots at him.
