Two tropical systems being monitored for development
San Ignacio town, Cayo. Tuesday, September 15, 2015. Two systems are being monitored in the far Atlantic Ocean for signs of further development.
The first is a low pressure system midway between Cape Verde Islands and the Lesser Antilles.
Forecasters at the Miami-based National Hurricane Center (NHC) say that some development is possible in the coming days and give it a 60% chance of development into a named storm.
The window of opportunity will close significantly by the weekend as upper-level winds will become unfavourable.
The low pressure system is on a northwestward track at about 10 miles per hour.
The second system is a broad area of low pressure about 300 miles south-southwest of the southernmost Cape Verde Islands.
Forecasters say conditions will become favorable for formation of a tropical depression in the coming days.
The system is moving west-northwestward at between 10 and 15 miles per hour.
