U.S. fugitive believed to have fled to Belize
Belmopan, CAYO. Tuesday, January 3, 2017. United States law enforcement authorities in the city of San Diego, California are looking for United States national Raymond “RJ” McLeod.
According to a State Department Diplomatic Security Service bulletin issued late last year, McLeod is wanted in San Diego for the crime of murder in connection with the death of a woman, identified as 30 year old Krystal Jaye Mitchell.
According to the bulletin, “on June 10, 2016, the victim was found deceased in an acquaintances apartment. She was last seen alive with her boyfriend, Raymond McLeod.”
U.S officials believe that McLeod fled to Belize via Mexico and is believed to have been last seen in the Placencia area of the Stann Creek district.
Raymond McLeod stands 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs about 245 pounds.
McLeod is a former Marine, according to the U.S. Law Enforcement bulletin, and suffers from Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Authorities believe that McLeod “may have access to weapons” and anyone who knows the whereabouts of this fugitive is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 0-800-922-8477, the Belize Police Department at 822-2222 or the United States Embassy at telephone number 822-4011.
Krystal Jaye Mitchell was a mother of two small children, ages 6 and 7 years old.
Although the U.S. Law Enforcement bulletin lists McLEod as Mitchell’s boyfriend, the mother of the deceased says Mitchell only knew McLeod two weeks prior to the killing.
Krystal Mitchell was a property manager in Phoenix, Arizona and that was how she met McLoed who, according to family members, befriended Mitchell after passing a background check and because he was a former U.S. Marine recruiter.
Mitchell’s two young children are now being raised by her mom Josephine Funes Wentzel who says that “catching this monster won’t bring my baby back, but I am hoping to STOP HIM from killing other women.”
The grieving mother goes on to say that “the women in Belize are in real danger to this man who has no soul whatsoever.”
