University of Belize brings health fair to Corozal villages
Residents of Libertad village in the Corozal district and surrounding areas were the beneficiaries of medical services and important health information last week.
Faculty members and students of the Faculty of Nursing, Allied Health and Social Work at the University of Belize conducted a health fair on Friday.
Several healthcare providers in the Corozal district also took part in the event which was held under the theme: “Be Aware! Show We Care ..Through Health Care.”
According to a statement from UB’s office of public information, the health fair was aimed at promoting meaningful partnerships within the communities and focused on disease prevention-through changing behavior and lifestyles.
The UB release says that the residents of Libertad village and surrounding areas took advantage of the various services provided including information on cancer, sexually transmitted infections, contraceptives, hypertension, diabetes and blood pressure checks, pap smear and breast examination.
The event was spearheaded by UB’ Interim Chair of Nursing Lily Mahung and facilitated by Dr. Nelson Marin, Public Health Nurses Vioney Sheppard, Donaldine Lizama, Rural Health Nurse Margaret Terry and Village Chairman Odder Bautista.
